The heart of Australia is more or less uninhabited. It is one of those final-frontier lands, raw and unspoiled by capitalism. Hundreds of kilometers go by without another human in sight, inhabited only by trees and rocks that are ancient and wise. This land is called the Outback, and it is our namesake.
It is also our inspiration. Gaurav and Neha, co-founders of Outback, visited this vast land in 2016 and were enchanted by it. There was an element of purity to it, of unadulterated honesty. The land was real, it was the provider. It ignited in them the desire to create something that was not only beautiful, but also conscious; conscious of the environment and of people.
Neha was a seasoned leather craftswoman and Gaurav had just put his fintech business to bed. The Indian leather goods market, back in 2016, was polarized into two extremes - on one end, you had luxury brands offering quality products at eye-watering prices, while on the other, you had local, manufacturers selling affordable but poor quality goods often made from faux, petroleum-derived leather sold as leather products. There was demand for products that represented quality and value, but that demand was going unmet.
Outback came into existence to meet that demand. Aimed at the quality and value-conscious individuals, Outback designs products that are in line with the themes pervasive in today’s work and social cultures. We are obsessed with values like naturalism and hypermobility. Every facet of our operation uses natural materials as far as possible: our leather is sourced responsibly, all our packaging material is made of recycled paper.
Outback’s bottom line is measured in customer satisfaction. We want each and every one of our customers to walk away wholly satiated with their purchase. To that end, we are always ready to go beyond our limits to give you exactly what you want; all our products are customizable through and through, ranging from color and texture to size and personalized embellishments. We take great pride in our work, and that pride is more fulfilling to us than any sales and margin numbers.
In 2018, the Outback team expanded to include Akhil Mittal, the founder and CEO of Natural Spring Mineral Water. Together, we continue to strive to create beautiful, sustainable and conscious products that will become an inseparable part of your daily lives. This is our story, and we hope you will be a part of it.
Millennials are changing the rules of the game. They prefer to work remotely via their laptops, in co-working spaces and communicating through WhatsApp and Slack rather than going to boardrooms and conferences. We want to make responsible, luxury products that meet and exceed their ever-evolving hyper mobile needs.
